Established in 2002 by grape grower Andre Lombard

Situated in Mokopane, South Africa (Limpopo Province)

One of the few summer rainfall breeding programmes in the world

Varieties are tested as follows:

  • Left open in rainfall to understand post-rainfall splitting/cracking
  • Shelf-life : on the farm (8 weeks)
  • In container : to see how it travels to markets with different transit times

Tawny is the first variety to be commercially released (2013)

During 2015 16 000 crosses were made to keep the LOMBARDI GENETICS pipeline full of new varieties
